Research interest: The aim of the thesis is to investigate experimentally single metallic nanostructures, so-called photonic atoms. The used experimental methods include spectroscopy based on dark-field microscopy and on exciting photonic atoms by frustrated total internal reflection. This gives a deeper insight to the nature of the occurring resonances and of the coupling mechanisms between single photonic atoms allowing designing optical materials (so-called metamaterials) based on these atoms with exceptional linear and non-linear optical properties. |
